Prior to joining the choir, did either of you have any previous

musical knowledge or experience?

Jani: I had played hand bells and could read music as a result of that.

Alan: I have a background in playing keyboards and a bit of guitar.

Neither of us had any singing experience to speak of.

Why did you join the Fishpond choir?

Jani: I searched for a choir that I felt I would enjoy singing with, heard a Fishpond performance and was immediately keen to join.

Alan: I attended one of the Fishpond Christmas Concerts in 2009 - with the same result. Everyone seemed to delight in singing together - and this enjoyment transferred to the audience.

Neither of us really knew whether we had the voice to make the grade, but with the support of the other Choir members around us, our confidence quickly grew.

We have various other separate interests and find that singing with the Fishpond is something we enjoy doing together.

How long have you been members?

Jani: We’re both into our third year with the Choir. I joined in Autumn 2009.

Alan: I started in January 2010.

Can you remember how you felt after your first

rehearsal with the Fishpond choir?

Alan: Slightly bemused, but enthused – and keen to improve at the next rehearsal. Dana made an immediate strong impression with his stunning singing and his teaching style – and continues to do so!

What do you enjoy most about being a member of the Fishpond choir?

Alan: Singing together and hearing the amazing tones and harmonies that a mixed bunch of human beings can produce - particularly from Dana’s arrangements and Anne’s compositions.

Jani: I’m also enjoying my role as a trainee drummer.

What do you enjoy about singing in concerts?

Alan: Concerts bring it all together for us. It’s amazing what a little adrenalin can do! With the Fishpond it’s not just about singing through the programme. A concert evolves as it is performed. Dana likes to respond to the artistic needs of the moment. Usually, it’s all right on the night – and everyone goes home happy!
