Prior to joining the choir, did you have any previous

musical knowledge or experience?

I had sung in a choir while I was at school, many years ago!

Why did you join the Fishpond choir?

I always enjoyed singing and now I had more time, wanted to take it up again.

How long have you been a member?

5 years.

If you have been a member of a choir before,

how did it compare with the Fishpond choir?

My previous choirs were church and school choirs, limited to classical works, where an audition was definitely required. The Fishpond accepts anyone who has a love of singing. Any individual shortcomings are drowned out by the volume and energy of the rest of the members.

Can you remember how you felt after your first

rehearsal with the Fishpond choir?

Delighted to be singing again and at how much everyone seemed to enjoy the session.

What do you enjoy most about being a member of the Fishpond choir?

The sheer range of music, the energy and enthusiasm of the members and, of Dana, the musical director. To be able to sing rousing African, delicate classical and English folk music, all arranged by the same person and in the same evening is a delight and wonder.

What do you enjoy about singing in concerts?

Dana strives for the most polished performance possible from such a mix of singers, and encourages everyone to sing with energy and enthusiasm, and to smile and enjoy what they are doing to the up most. The pinnacle of our efforts are the concerts, where we can sing our hearts out, accompanied by Anne de Waal’s magical piano playing and of course those African drums!

The testament to their appreciation of the choir is the applause and mirrored enthusiasm of our audiences. Nothing can beat the euphoria experienced by all participants at a successful concert.
